Why Coffee Dates Became Part of My Summer Routine

There’s something about motherhood with littles that can make your days feel repetitive.
Beautiful…
But repetitive.
Wake up.
Breakfast.
Snacks.
Diapers.
Nap schedules.
Laundry.
Repeat.
And while I love being home with my babies…
I also realized:
Sometimes everyone does better when we get out.
And coffee dates became one of the easiest ways to make that happen.
What Makes a Great Coffee Date Spot with Toddlers
Not every coffee shop works with littles 😅
So over time, I started looking for places with:
Outdoor seating
This is huge.
Because toddlers don’t love sitting still.
Outdoor patios give them:
Space
Fresh air
Less stress for everyone
Nearby walking paths
This makes everything easier.
Coffee + stroller walk = mom win.
Kid-friendly treats
Mini muffins. Fruit. Cookies.
Even if they only eat two bites 😅
Nearby park or open grass
This is the dream.
Coffee first.
Play after.
My Favorite Summer Coffee Date Flow
This is what works best for us:
Step 1: Pack before leaving
I always bring:
For the kids:
Water bottles
Snack cups
Wipes
Backup diaper
For me:
Sunglasses
Wallet
Phone
Portable fan (summer essential)
Step 2: Keep expectations low
This is the secret.
We’re not going for:
Perfect behavior.
We’re going for:
Connection.
Fresh air.
A little adventure.
Step 3: Move after coffee
Toddlers need movement.
So after ordering, we usually:
Walk a trail
Explore a park
Watch dogs
Find flowers
Sit on a blanket
And honestly…
That’s where the best memories happen.
Why Coffee Dates Work So Well for My Kids
With a 15-month-old and 2.5-year-old, coffee outings work because both kids get different things from it.
My 15-month-old loves:
Watching people
New sounds
Snacks in the stroller
My 2.5-year-old loves:
“Helping” order
Spotting dogs
Exploring new places
And suddenly…
A simple coffee run becomes an outing.
My Favorite Types of Summer Coffee Dates
You don’t need one perfect spot.
Mix it up.
1. Coffee + Park Morning
Probably our favorite.
2. Farmers Market Coffee Walk
Great for:
Music
Snacks
People watching
3. Trail Walk + Coffee
This one feels the most peaceful.
4. Beach Coffee Morning
Coffee + sand toys = toddler heaven.
5. Backyard Coffee Picnic
Even home counts.
And honestly?
Sometimes this is easiest.
What I’ve Learned
My kids won’t remember:
What coffee shop we went to.
What drink I ordered.
What my outfit looked like.
But they will remember:
Walking trails.
Holding my hand.
Laughing on a bench.
Finding flowers.
And honestly?
So will I.
Motherhood Is Built in Small Moments
Not every memory needs to be:
A vacation.
A big event.
A perfect day.
Sometimes…
It’s just:
An iced coffee.
A stroller.
Two toddlers.
And sunshine.
And honestly?
That’s enough.
