The Stroller Walks That Changed My Summer Routine

How a simple daily walk became one of the healthiest habits in my motherhood journey

There was a season of motherhood where I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath.

Not physically.

Emotionally.

Between:

  • Raising a 15-month-old and a 2.5-year-old

  • Trying to stay consistent with workouts

  • Running a business

  • Keeping our home running

  • Showing up as a wife, a mom, and still trying to feel like me

Life felt loud.

Beautiful…

But loud.

And somewhere in the middle of all of that…

A simple stroller walk started changing everything.

Not because it was some dramatic fitness transformation.

Not because I suddenly had more time.

But because it gave me something I didn’t realize I needed so badly:

Space.

Why I Started Walking More

At first, stroller walks weren’t about fitness.

They were survival.

Honestly

Some afternoons looked like:

  • My toddler climbing the couch

  • My baby getting fussy

  • Everyone feeling overstimulated

  • Me checking the clock wondering how it was only 2PM

And I quickly realized…

Sometimes nobody needed another activity.

We just needed fresh air.

The “Reset Walk”

That’s what I started calling it.

Not a workout.

Not a step goal.

Just:

A reset.

When the energy felt off…

We walked.

When someone was melting down…

We walked.

When I felt anxious…

We walked.

And more often than not?

By the time we came home…

Everyone felt better.

Including me.

My Real Stroller Walk Routine

I keep this incredibly simple.

Because if it’s complicated…

I probably won’t do it.

Morning Walks

These are my favorite.

Usually after breakfast.

Before the day gets too hot.

Why:

My kids are happier.

Energy is better.

And it helps set the tone for the day.

Afternoon Walks

These are my “survival walks.”

When everyone feels:

  • Tired

  • Restless

  • Emotional

This is often when I need it most.

What I Bring Every Time

Because toddlers 😅

My Non-Negotiables:

For the kids:

  • Water bottles

  • Snacks

  • Portable stroller fan

  • Sunscreen

  • Backup diaper

For me:

  • Big water bottle

  • Sunglasses

  • Headphones (sometimes)

The Unexpected Mental Health Benefits

This was the part I wasn’t expecting.

Walking didn’t just help my kids.

It helped me.

Some walks look like:

  • Listening to worship music

  • Listening to podcasts

  • Walking in silence

  • Praying quietly

And those 20–30 minutes?

Started becoming one of the healthiest parts of my day.

Why It Works So Well for Toddlers

With a 15-month-old and a 2.5-year-old, stroller walks are one of the easiest ways to meet both of their needs.

My 15-month-old gets:

  • Sensory input

  • Fresh air

  • New scenery

My 2.5-year-old gets:

  • Conversations

  • Pointing things out

  • Feeling included

Sometimes we talk about:

  • Dogs

  • Construction trucks

  • Birds

  • Flowers

And honestly…

Those little conversations become some of my favorite memories.

The Physical Benefits (Without Pressure)

Walking gave me movement…

Without pressure.

No:

  • Gym childcare

  • Performance goals

  • “Bouncing back”

Just movement.

And in this season…

That mattered.

Some of My Favorite Walk Routes

These don’t need to be fancy.

Some of our favorites:

Neighborhood loops

Easy, close, predictable.

Park walks

Perfect when we need extra movement.

Coffee walks

Mom gets iced coffee.

Kids get snacks 😅

Everyone wins.

What Changed This Summer

Somewhere between:

  • The meltdowns

  • The snack requests

  • The stroller straps

  • The endless toddler questions

I realized…

These weren’t just walks.

They were:

  • Memories

  • Conversations

  • Reset moments

  • Tiny pieces of self-care

And honestly?

That changed everything.

Sometimes the Simplest Things Change Everything

I didn’t need another routine.

I didn’t need another productivity hack.

I just needed:

Fresh air.Movement.My babies. And a little bit of space to breathe.

And somehow…

That became one of the healthiest habits in my motherhood journey.
