The Preschool Style Edit
The timeless wardrobe staples I'm choosing for my little ones this fall.

Childhood Deserves Comfortable Clothes
One of my favorite parts of preparing for a new season is refreshing my children's closets.
Not because they need an entirely new wardrobe—but because every season brings new adventures.
Preschool mornings.
Library visits.
Pumpkin patches.
Family photos.
Weekend coffee dates.
Disney trips.
Apple orchards.
When I shop for my kids, I always come back to one question:
Can they comfortably be kids in this?
If the answer is yes, it's worth considering.
I want clothing they can run, climb, paint, jump, explore and snuggle in—not outfits that constantly need adjusting or make me worry about every grass stain.
Over the years I've also learned that children need far fewer clothes than we often think. A thoughtfully chosen wardrobe with pieces that mix together beautifully will always work harder than an overflowing closet.
Today I'm sharing exactly how I'm building our fall wardrobe this year.

My Fall Color Palette
Every season starts with a simple color palette.
Choosing colors that naturally coordinate means every top works with nearly every bottom, making getting dressed easier for everyone.
This fall I'm reaching for:
Cream
Camel
Chocolate Brown
Olive
Rust
Dusty Blue
Soft Plaids
Warm Denim
These colors photograph beautifully together and transition seamlessly from August through Thanksgiving.
The Everyday Edit
Children don't need twenty outfits.
They need comfortable, well-made basics that can be worn over and over again.
When I build a seasonal wardrobe, I usually begin with:
Soft everyday tees
Cozy leggings or joggers
Denim
Lightweight sweaters
A cardigan
One everyday jacket
Comfortable sneakers
Waterproof boots
These pieces become the foundation of nearly every outfit.

Comfortable enough for busy little feet.
♡ Ariel's Tip
I buy one size up in seasonal outerwear whenever possible. It gives us a little extra wear throughout the season without sacrificing comfort.

Boutique Brands I Love
There are so many beautiful children's brands today, but I always return to the ones that combine comfort with timeless style.
Caden Lane
One of my favorite places to shop for buttery-soft pajamas and everyday essentials.
Their fabrics are incredibly comfortable and hold up beautifully through countless washes.
Use code ARIELH to save.
Lola and the Lost Boys
When I'm looking for something a little more special—whether it's a seasonal outfit or family photos—this is one of the first places I browse.
The details are classic, playful and beautifully made.
Use code Ariel15 on your first purchase.
Posh Peanut
For cozy bamboo pajamas and coordinating family moments, Posh Peanut continues to be one of our most-worn brands.
I especially love their seasonal collections that feel fun without sacrificing comfort.

Shoes Worth Buying
Children spend more time running than almost anything else.
Supportive shoes make such a difference.
For fall I recommend:
One everyday sneaker
One waterproof boot
One dress shoe (if needed)
Warm socks
That's usually enough to get through the season.

Rain boots
Cozy socks

Dressing for Fall Family Photos
One of the biggest questions I receive every autumn is what to wear for family photos.
Instead of matching exactly, I prefer coordinating.
Choose two or three colors and let everyone wear different textures within that palette.
For example:
Mom:Cream sweater + denim
Dad:Olive overshirt + dark denim
Little Boy:Camel sweater + jeans
Little Girl:Floral dress with cream cardigan
The result feels timeless instead of overly coordinated.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many fall outfits does a preschooler need?
A small capsule wardrobe of around 12–15 mix-and-match pieces is often enough for everyday wear, especially if you do laundry regularly.
Should I size up for fall clothes?
For jackets and sweaters, sizing up slightly can extend wear throughout the season. Everyday tops and pants should fit comfortably now.
What colors photograph best in fall?
Cream, camel, olive, rust, denim and chocolate brown create a timeless palette that looks beautiful outdoors.
Where do you invest versus save?
I invest in shoes and outerwear because they're worn often, and I save on trend pieces or items children may outgrow quickly.
