The honest mom guide to costumes, dinner, fireworks, overtired littles, and making the most of one of the most magical nights onboard.

Pirate Night Looks Different Once You Have Kids
Before kids…
Pirate Night sounds like:
Late-night fun.Deck parties.Fireworks.Dancing.
After kids?
It becomes:
Nap strategy.Dinner timing.Backup pajamas.Snacks.And hoping your toddler doesn’t melt down right before fireworks.
And honestly?
That’s what makes it memorable.
As a mom of 2 under 2, Pirate Night ended up being one of our favorite nights onboard—but it looked very different than I originally imagined.
So if you’re cruising with babies or toddlers…
Here’s what Pirate Night is actually like.
Start Preparing Earlier Than You Think
Pirate Night doesn’t start at dinner.
For moms?
It starts in the morning.
Because if you want a magical evening…
Your daytime rhythm matters.
My Pirate Night Game Plan:
✔ Keep naps a priority
✔ Don’t overschedule characters
✔ Pool earlier in the day
✔ Back to stateroom for downtime before dinner
This alone changes everything.
Because overtired toddlers + Pirate Night crowds?
Not ideal.
ShopMy Favorite:
Perfect for protecting naps.
Getting Ready Is Half the Fun
This might honestly be my favorite part.
Watching your toddler:
Put on pirate ears…
Look in the mirror…
And realize something special is happening.
It’s magic.
My Family Outfit Formula:
Mom:
White linen dress or neutral matching set
Gold jewelry
Comfortable sandals
Dad:
Neutral button-down
Khaki shorts
Toddler Boy:
Soft pirate-inspired tee
Neutral shorts
Mouse-inspired pirate ears
Baby Girl:
Soft dress
Bow
Comfortable shoes
No scratchy costumes.
No uncomfortable fabrics.
Just themed…
but elevated.
ShopMy Favorites:
Dinner Is Entertaining… and Sometimes Chaotic
Pirate Night dinner usually feels:
Fun.
Loud.
Energetic.
And with littles?
Sometimes unpredictable.
Some nights your toddler:
✔ Dances
✔ Eats everything
✔ Laughs at the servers
Other nights?
They’re climbing on you by appetizer.
And that’s okay.
My Must-Haves:
✔ Snack cup
✔ Water bottle
✔ Wipes
✔ Extra pacifier
ShopMy Favorites:
The Deck Party
This is usually where the energy shifts.
Music.
Lights.
Characters.
Excitement.
Crowds.
For toddlers?
It can be magical…
or overwhelming.
My Advice:
Arrive early.
Pick a spot near an exit.
That way:
If your little one needs space…
You’re not stuck.
What About Babies?
Babies often do surprisingly well…
if:
✔ They’re fed
✔ They’re warm
✔ They feel close to you
My Secret Weapon:
This made the entire night easier.
Our baby stayed:
Close.
Calm.
Happy.
And even fell asleep.
Fireworks: Worth It?
Honestly?
Yes.
But…
Not every child makes it.
And that’s okay.
Some toddlers:
Love it.
Some:
Cover their ears.
Some:
Fall asleep beforehand.
All normal.
What Helped Us:
Especially for:
Sensitive littles.
Don’t Be Afraid to Leave Early
This is my biggest advice.
You do not need to stay for everything.
Sometimes the best Pirate Night memory is:
One photo.
A little dancing.
A snack.
And back to bed.
That still counts.
My Honest Mom Take
Pirate Night with babies and toddlers isn’t always picture-perfect.
But it is:
Funny.Messy.Sweet.Memorable.
And watching your little ones experience something so magical?
That’s worth every extra dia
